Do You Really Know How to Breathe?I used to think I knew how to breathe, and even recommended controlled breathing to others in my practice. But I didn't know what I was doing. There are three main varieties of breathing style I use (besides unconscious breathing, which happens most of the time), and today I'll teach the one I learned from Tony Robbins back in 1997 or 1998.
- Breathe in as you count to 4
- Hold the breath as you count to 12
- Release the breath as you count to 8
- Repeat 5-10 times in a row throughout the day as you think of it
You can count quickly or slowly or whatever pace in between works for you, but just stay the same pace for each of the steps until you complete a single cycle. Try to stay consistent, but if you feel any discomfort, then obviously stop or speed up the pace. Obviously, do not try this if you have any breathing problem or suspect that you might.
You may well feel a little dizzy for a few seconds if you don't regularly breath deeply. This is simply your body getting more oxygen. Take a pause until it passes, then continue. (If dizziness or discomfort persists, then please consult your healthcare provider.)
Alkalizing should be a gentle process at this stage.
